The Hapless Immigrant (written 02/27/2000)

From foreign shores so distant they all come

With hopes so high they plan to call it home

A home where they will find that freedom lasts

And not some dream back in their distant past

Eager eyes espy the lovely lady

Whose lifted light gives hopes to submerged dreams

Buoyant spirits rise to greet the promise

Of Life  - a future of such perfect bliss

They land and so does harsh reality

As truth surrounds them with full clarity

No one cares about your joy or sorrow

Yesterday just merged into tomorrow.
